Postcard from Switzerland

I have just arrived in Switzerland and I just had to share these images. We are staying at the famous ski area of Lautenbrunnen, and believe it or not but we are actually going skiing on Friday in the middle of winter. These images are taken just outside our hotel room. I'll post some images of my next adventure which is lake Como in Italy.

Out Of Office

Just a quick note to let my current and future clients know that I will be in Europe until the 4th of August. I'm in Paris at the moment but I'll be leaving today for Switzerland and Italy. I won't have a roaming cell phone but I will have my laptop. For wedding enquiries I can be contacted by email at ryan@rgphotography.co.za. It might take a couple of days for me to get back to you because I have limited internet at the moment. Thanks very much.

Simon & Chika - London

Simon & Chika flew me out from Cape Town for their wedding in London which was an amazing experience. The reception was held at The Russell Hotel in Russell Square in London. All the pre service pictures we're taken in Notting Hill close to where Simon & Chika live. It was really cool to have my brother working with me on this wedding. I'll post some of his pictures here soon. The wedding was really colourful with all the Nigerian family attending and the african dancers added some spice to the reception too. Here are some of my favourites as usual but honestly I have had to leave out so much of the wedding due to space. Thanks Simon & Chika for trusting in me to cover your wedding so far from home, I had a great time photographing it.

2008 Archive

I was just going through some of my old wedding image archives and It's amazing how much photographic equipment has changed. Some of these images we're photographed on one of the first Nikon cameras I owned, the Nikon FA. This was the first camera I actually bought. I used my dad's old manual 50mm lens to capture weddings with. It's crazy, I actually photographed entire weddings back then with just a 50mm lens, but that's all I had so I had to make it work. These days you buy a camera for R 60 000 and 6 months later it's out of date. There's no doubt that 3D imaging is on it's way, it might even be next year with the rumoured release of the Nikon D4. These images we're captured between 2000 and 2008 with various Nikon cameras. The Nikon FA, F90x, F4s, D100, D2x. I'm now using the Nikon D3 and soon the D3s. You will notice in my images that I don't use a lot of photoshop. My photographic influences have come from older generation fashion photographers and I just love the raw way it was done back then. I like to use only traditional darkroom techniques of burning and dodging with contast. I'm not a huge fan of sepia tone these days but there are a few here in this post from weddings a couple of years back.

My new branding for 2010/11

Here are some images of how I'll be branding my images for my upcoming weddings. The next wedding to be posted here will be from my wedding in London which is taking place in Notting Hill. I'll also be traveling to Paris for 7 days so I'll be posting images of a rather unusual nature of this beautiful city.

Leon & Nicole

Leon and Nicole got married at the Asara Wine Estate in Stellenbosch on Saturday. I just love photographing winter weddings here in Cape Town. It's cooler and the light is amazing. While the guests we're watching the Super 14 rugby final I spent extra time getting some amazing portraits of the couple which is a rarity. I must say Leon and Nicole got some amazing pictures, here are some of my favourites.

Images of the season

Although it's difficult to showcase my best images of the past summer season here in Cape Town, I have compiled a selection of portraits and other images that I really like based on lighting and mood. I honestly have hundreds of amazing pictures and it's impossible to show them all on my website. Please feel free to comment below.

The dress of the season.

This is by far the best wedding dress of my past wedding season here in Cape Town. Nina wore this gorgeous dress made by Pronovias

George & Maelle

It's winter weddings in Cape Town at the moment. It's pretty cold and hasn't stopped raining now for a week. It was the same for George and Maelle on monday at Knorhoek Wine Estate in Stellenbosch. It was a cold and rainy day but reminded me of a winters day wedding in England. George is from England and Maelle is from France and the 30 guests flew to Cape Town from all over the world. Kate from Wedding Concepts did a great job in creating this almost European country style feel with the decor. The couple wanted only journalistic images with absolutely no posing was the brief from Maelle.
